Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight is an independent sports charity offering training and competition opportunities to athletes with learning disabilities on the island. We work closely with Special Olympics Great Britain and access local, regional and national competition opportunities through our affiliation with them.

Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight has had an active membership on the island since 1987, previously as a branch of Isle of Wight Special Olympics, before we became an independent charity. We are run solely by experienced volunteers, who organise and run training sessions for Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Indoor Bowls, Swimming and Multisport and Fitness.

We believe that sport should be accessible for all, with the benefits of regular training extending far beyond increasing fitness, to providing opportunities to; expand communication, develop team skills and widen social opportunities. For those that wish to compete, there is a regular competition pathway, providing a level playing field for athletes to showcase their sportsmanship, dedication and skills.

If you are interested in getting involved as either an athlete or volunteer, then please get in contact.
